Guitarist Bob Gothar and Samantha had a smashing time when they first performed at a Friday night Songwriter show at TCCC back in 2020. What a joy to be surrounded by such talent. And what a treat to not only get to perform in front of Art Podell of The New Christy Minstrels but to talk to him after the show. Once March of that year hit, the Cultural Center switched to streaming shows. Bob and Samantha are looking forward to returning in a few weeks to performing there in person.

What a treasure the Tarzana Community & Cultural Center is. It’s one of those places you may have driven by numerous times, catching a glimpse of an old, Spanish-style house. Something special lies beyond the gate and beautiful trees--so different from the usual jumble of strip-malls, office buildings and other nondescript structures along Ventura Blvd. A search of the Center’s website reveals a fascinating history of what was formerly a garden statuary business for 40 years that only evolved into its present incarnation due to the generous efforts of local residents who saved it from becoming just another commercial enterprise when it was sold in the ‘90s.

From George Gershwin to James Brown

Bon Vivant Market & Cafe, 3155 Glendale Blvd., Atwater Village, CA

Reuniting with drummer/percussionist Lynn Coulter, The Knobby Knees will go to town with three sets of classic tunes from composers like Irving Berlin, Jimmy McHugh and Dorothy Fields, Duke Ellington, Hank Williams, Ray Charles, Buddy Holly and Fats Domino, with a little bit of the '60s snuck in thanks to Antonio Carlos Jobim and James Brown. Our newest tune is about 55 years old--our oldest is nearly a centenarian. But they never sound dated. In the heart of Atwater Village, near the 134/5 at Bon Vivant Market & Cafe.
